An East Hampton Outlier
Founded by artist and art dealer Joel Mesler, Rental Gallery is located 100 miles from the capital of the art world. After almost two decades as a dealer in both Los Angeles and New York, Mesler opened Rental in East Hampton as a response to the inflating costs of Manhattan real estate. Operating as a non-exclusive “rental” gallery — instead of representing artists full time — the gallery exhibits four months out of the year and in the long Hamptons off-season acts as Mesler’s painting studio.
